Abstract

The debate on veganism in children and adolescents has generated and continues to generate a debate in which the right to choose a vegan diet by children and adolescents themselves is discussed. In front of this is the medical discipline and nutritionists with a possible positioning regarding such a choice. Analyzing nutritional factors, together with scientific, social and cultural evidence, this article aims to discern and discuss the positioning of nutrition professionals regarding the dilemma, the possible nutritional cognitive dissonance, in which these professionals are involved: the confrontation between what is politically correct or what is academically and scientifically correct. All of this in the hands of professionals, who are supposed to resolve the possible confrontation from a free and personal ethic.
